Daisy Hill will be looking to maintain momentum from a good midweek result away to Holker Old Boys on Tuesday night when they travel to face Droylsden tonight in the North West Counties League First Division North (7.45pm).

After Tuesday’s game, manager Nicky Hunt expressed his satisfaction with his side’s display in difficult conditions on a windy night in Cumbria, and debutants Harry Forshaw, signed from Droylsden, and Calen Gallagher-Allison, arriving from Atherton Collieries, were singled out by the manager for their performances.

“In the first half especially on Tuesday, we were really good, and we played some really good stuff,” said Hunt.

“It’s pleasing that we’re creating loads of chances. It’s just frustrating that the manner of the goals we concede is poor and that’s letting us down at the minute.

“I thought Harry and Calen were excellent, and they are really good additions that we’ve brought in to the squad.

“For the rest of the players as well, they know there’s now tough competition for places, so they’ve all got to be on top of their game if they are going to be involved”.

Tonight’s opponents Droylsden moved into third place in the table on Tuesday night with a draw at Ashton Town, and are on a good run of form that has seen them lose only once in the last nine games.

They also booked a place in the last 16 of the FA Vase last weekend, with a win against Mansfield side Sherwood Colliery of the United Counties League Premier Division North, and Hunt is expecting another difficult game on the road for his side.

“We didn’t train on Thursday, like we normally do, to give the lads a rest before what is going to be a massive test for us at Droylsden on Friday,” said Hunt.

“I just hope we can put on a performance that builds on Tuesday night. We need to get back on a winning and unbeaten run to get up that league table, and get us on track until the end of the season.

“We played Droylsden early on this season before I took over as manager, but we know what we are coming up against. They’ve being going well and we are expecting they’ll bring more of the same into the game on Friday.

“They’ve brought a few new lads in recently, too, and it will be a tough game for us in front of the big support that they have.”
