JOSH Sheehan won’t make Wanderers’ trip to Wimbledon – but Steven Schumacher remains confident the Welshman will be back in action next week.
Though he was not aboard the team bus destined for the capital on Friday morning, Sheehan should be clear of the calf injury which has ruled him out of the last couple of games by the time Bolton face Barnsley at home next weekend.
Richard Taylor is also out with a groin injury but should be back in full training soon, leaving Marcus Forss (hamstring) and Amario Cozier-Duberry (knee) as the only two longer-term issues.
Loanees Rob Apter and Corey Blackett-Taylor are due to make their first appearance in the squad this weekend, but no other players are likely to be registered by noon.
Schumacher is celebrating his first anniversary as Wanderers head coach today (Friday) and with his side sitting third in the table and hoping to close the gap on Lincoln City – who visit Wigan Athletic on Saturday – he admits the time has passed quickly.
“I’ve enjoyed it, it’s flown by,” he said. “It has been an incessant, 12 months.
“Obviously, coming in mid-season is always a challenge. You probably spend the first six months figuring out exactly what you need, what you want to keep and what you need to try and change. Getting to know the people who work at the club, building that relationship.
“The second six months I've really, really enjoyed because we've done some really good stuff. It's been an exciting start to the season.”
Wimbledon start the weekend in 17th spot, two points above the relegation zone and with one league win in their last 13 games.
Schumacher wants to see his side continue to put points on the board.
“We have been getting results even if we haven’t been playing as well as we’d like to play,” he said. “But 10 points in the last four games is pretty good and we’d like to be 13 out of 15, that’s the target.
“Wimbledon did well when they came up last year and have had a tricky middle part of the season but I’m sure they will try and strengthen and try and get themselves out of the situation that they're in. Like any game in League One, it's not a given.
“You've got to go down there and perform to the level that we think that we can to get any sort of result from it.”
