David Abimbola is determined to show what he can do in League Two after heading on loan to Accrington Stanley.
The forward is aiming to get some regular minutes under his belt after a stint in the first team at Wanderers during the final stages of last season.
Abimbola has been sidelined with injury in recent months but is now back to full fitness and raring to go at the Wham Stadium.
“I enjoyed it (last season), it was a big eye opener for me about what could be if I put in the work. So I’m just trying to play week in, week out,” he told the club.
“I had an injury at the start of the season and I’m just coming back from that, but I am fully fit now and ready to play.
“I am happy to be here. I just want to push on and get some goals, it would be good to score in front of the fans.
“I’d say my main strengths are my pace, power and strength. I want to come to a new club and make a big impression.”
The Reds currently sit 13th in the League Two table and are looking to kick on after winning four of their last seven games.
Abimbola made his debut off the bench in the 3-1 win against Cheltenham at the weekend, replacing Josh Woods for the final 20 minutes.
“It was good to be around the lads and see the environment,” he said after his first training session. “I knew about a week ago that they were interested and it is a good club to be at.”
The 18-year-old signed his first professional contract at Bolton last summer and recently penned a new deal that will keep him at the club until June 2027 with a 12-month option.
Abimbola was part of the Under-18 squad that won the EFL Youth Alliance and Lancashire FA Youth Cup under Julian Darby.
“It was a good experience. The group of lads I was with were top, so being able to win it with them was good,” he reflected.
“(The first pro deal) was good for me and my family. It is what you dream of, becoming a professional footballer, so it was a good moment for me.”
