WANDERERS will monitor Josh Sheehan over the next 24 hours before deciding whether to pitch him into battle against Barnsley.
The Wales international has missed the last couple of games with a calf injury but is now back in training and could return to the squad this weekend.
New signing Johnny Kenny has also been recovering from a similar injury picked up at Celtic last month and Steven Schumacher hopes to welcome him in for his first training session on Friday morning, if not the start of next week.
“Josh was back on the grass today, so we’ll see how that reacts for tomorrow,” said the Bolton boss.
“We may get him with the main group tomorrow, we'll see how it is in the morning.
“He's stepped up his load the way he would need to be, he's just over two weeks now, which is about right, for the grade strain that he had.
“It is the same with Johnny Kenny, who pretty much did his injury the same weekend at Celtic, and so they are on the same sort of path. We will see how both of them are in the morning but they won't be far away, they won't be far away from knocking on the door to play.”
Richard Taylor has returned from a slight groin injury but there will be checks on Max Conway, who took a knock in the game against Burton and was taken out of the squad to face Wimbledon last weekend.
Ruben Rodrigues is unlikely to feature until he has had some game time in the B Team, with the midfielder still in the ‘pre-season’ stage following his move from Brazil.
Barnsley sit 14th in the table, 11 points behind the play-offs but just six away from the relegation zone, with supporters downbeat after sale of popular top scorer David Keilor-Dunn to Wrexham.
Schumacher was at Oakwell to see the Tykes draw 2-2 with Northampton in midweek and expects a side who are still potent in attack.
“They have got four games in hand on us, which will be a challenge for them because their league position is skewed,” he said.
“They are going to have a hectic schedule from now on until the run-in.
“I'm not fully aware of why they've got so many games in hand, but they're going to have to make the most of it if they're going to challenge for the top six.
“I went and watched them on Tuesday night, they had a point at home to Northampton, which was a game that they could have won, but also could have lost later on, so it'll be a test for us and we're looking forward to it.”
