The latest managerial casualty has been confirmed in League One as Wigan part company with Ryan Lowe.
A heavy defeat at Peterborough on Saturday proved the final straw for Lowe, who had been in charge at the Brick Community Stadium for nearly a year.
Glenn Whelan and Graham Barrow will take interim charge of the side while the club begins the search for a new head coach.
An official statement read: “Wigan Athletic can confirm that they have parted company with head coach Ryan Lowe.
“In the interim, Glenn Whelan and Graham Barrow will take on first team matters, and the club will work quickly to identify and appoint a new head coach.
“The club would like to place on record its thanks to Ryan for his efforts and wishes him all the best for the future.”
The Latics have gone seven games without victory in the league, including their defeat against Wanderers last month, and slipped into the relegation zone. They are back at home on Tuesday night against Reading.
Lowe previously won promotion from League Two with Bury and Plymouth, working closely with Bolton boss Steven Schumacher.
When he left Plymouth in 2021, Schumacher stepped up to take on his first managerial role and lead the Pilgrims to the title with 101 points the following campaign.
Lowe took over at Wigan at the back end of last season, replacing Shaun Maloney in the dugout, and initially finished in 15th place.
This season, they were in the top half at the start of December but would only win one of their next 11 games in the league.
