Daisy Hill will be looking to pick up a third successive league win when they make the trip to Darwen tomorrow in the North West Counties First Division North (3pm).

Two back-to-back victories against AFC Blackpool last week moved Daisy to within six points of a play-off place, and although Wednesday night’s scheduled fixture at Garstang fell foul of the wet weather, the 4G playing surface at Darwen’s Multevo Group Anchor Ground means there should be no problem in getting this weekend’s game played.

And Daisy boss Nicky Hunt is looking forward to seeing his side back in action.

“We have put ourselves in a great position by winning two on the bounce,” said Hunt.

“But we need to back that up now, and we need a run of games to be on to help keep that momentum up.

“It was disappointing to lose Wednesday’s game, but as I’ve said several times in recent weeks, every club is suffering with having games postponed and it’s the same for everyone, so we just have to move on and focus on the next game.”

Tomorrow’s encounter has the look of a game that is likely to deliver goals, with Daisy having scored 11 in their last three games, and Darwen hit seven on their trip to Thornton Cleveleys last Saturday.

While Daisy boss Hunt is happy with his side’s goalscoring form, he admits that seven goals conceded in the past three games is cause for concern, and an issue that has to be addressed if a chase for the play-off places is to continue.

“I’m like a broken record at times saying this, we haven’t got a problem scoring goals, but we do have a problem with conceding goals,” said Hunt.

“We keep the lads fit, we’re incredibly quick on the break, and defences will be afraid of us.

“Defensively no one carves us open, but goals conceded nearly always come from our problems, and we need to rectify that and rectify it really quickly.

“But we’ve picked up six points from the last two games with good performances, and if we could make it nine out of nine on Saturday that would be a fantastic return.

“I think we’re quietly building something here, and whether we can pick enough points to be in the top five at the end of the season, who knows?

“But we’re confident in what we can do, and we will go into each of the remaining games on the front foot and see where it takes us.”
