Daisy Hill have no game today, but are back in action on Monday evening when they host Ashton Town at the Ginge Power Stadium in the North West Counties League First Division North (7.45pm).
The disappointing 3-2 defeat at Darwen last Saturday, combined with results elsewhere and teams being clustered together in the table separated by just a small number of points, means Daisy face a tough battle to reach the play-off places.
And manager Nicky Hunt is well aware of the importance of the next few games for his squad.
“The next five games coming up will define our season, and after those we’ll know what we’re playing for, whether it’s play-offs or a mid-table position,” said Hunt.
“If we win all of our remaining games, we’d almost certainly be in the play-offs, but that won’t be easy at all.
“But it’s the same for all the teams in and around us, they’ve got to win the majority of their games to get in the play-offs, too.
“It’s as simple as that, as a lot of the teams challenging for the play-offs have to play one another.
“There’s no easy games and it’s just about who wants to win and who gets the momentum.
“With all the games being called off recently as they have been due to the weather, it’s been difficult, so if we get the games on, and if we can start winning again, hopefully we can build up on that and get a run going again.
“We’ve trained on Thursday, and we’ll train again on Saturday, so hopefully we’ll have two good sessions back to back and we’ll have the lads fully tuned and ready for Ashton Town.
“Ashton have lost their last three games, so it’s going to be a big game that, and we could be able to leapfrog above them if we win, depending on how they get on in their game on Saturday.
“So it’s a big incentive for us to be on the front foot, and just emphasises how important the game is.”
