Wanderers are aiming to make it three wins on the spin as they head over the Pennines to take on Rotherham United.
Steven Schumacher’s side pulled off a remarkable late comeback against Wycombe last weekend thanks to goals from Ruben Rodrigues, Mason Burstow and Corey Blackett-Taylor.
The Whites now have a chance to apply some pressure on second-place Cardiff, who are nine points ahead, before their trip to Exeter later in the day. The Bluebirds were beaten by Lincoln last weekend before dropping points at Barnsley on Tuesday night.
Team news
Wanderers have no fresh injury concerns but John McAtee’s return to training was delayed this week due to illness.
Schumacher revealed on Thursday that McAtee could still get some time on the grass with the squad before they head over the Pennines.
Amario Cozier-Duberry has continued to progress in the right direction, with Marcus Forss the only other member of the squad sidelined.
The hosts are waiting on the fitness of midfield duo Dan Gore and Josh Benson, but Harry Gray is available after recovering from a dead leg.
Opposition lowdown
Rotherham find themselves in the relegation zone, three points from safety, after a run of one win in seven.
The Millers were beaten 1-0 at Huddersfield Town last time out after Lenny Agbaire’s own goal 14 minutes from time.
Like Bolton, Matt Hamshaw’s side have had a free week on the training pitch to prepare for Saturday’s fixture. However, they have been dealing with some illness in the camp.
Head-to-head
Wanderers have faced Rotherham 47 times in their history, with a record of 11 wins, 14 draws and 22 defeats.
The Whites left it late to secure a 2-1 victory on Boxing Day thanks to Josh Sheehan’s brace at the Toughsheet Stadium.
Bolton also came out on top in the Vertu Trophy a few months prior. Thierry Gale scored the only goal before the winger was sent off for a reckless challenge.
Wanderers were beaten 3-1 on their last trip to Rotherham in January 2025 despite John McAtee’s late consolation. In fact, they haven’t won there since 1966.
How to watch
With the fixture kicking off at 12.30pm, it is available to watch live on SkySports+ for those who aren’t heading to the New York Stadium.
