Daisy Hill manager Nicky Hunt is challenging his young side to deliver another good result against promotion-chasing opposition, when MSB Woolton visit the Ginge Power Stadium tomorrow in the North West Counties League First Division North (3pm).
Last week’s win at Squires Gate was achieved with a youthful starting XI, four of whom were making their first starting appearances for the club.
And Hunt is now looking for more of the same from his squad.
“When you need to bring new people in, they either sink or swim, and these lads are winning games of football and doing the best that they can, and that’s all I can ask of them,” said Hunt.
“As long as they know the job I want them to do, and they follow it, it’s great for me because I can trust them.
“Now we’ve got lads coming back from injury, it’ll be hard for them to get back in after that performance last week.
“It’s up to the lads that played on Saturday to keep that shirt after they won against a really good Squires Gate team on their home turf, and the lads that are coming back need to try and get the shirts back.”
This weekend’s opponents MSB Woolton are currently in a play-off position, although they suffered their first defeat in 15 games on Tuesday night at Thornton Cleveleys.
The Merseyside outfit play their home games on a 4G surface, and Hunt is hoping playing on a grass pitch that is likely to be heavy will work in his side’s favour.
“Every game they play at home is on a carpet, and they are used to it because they will train on that, too - but when they come to us, it’s a different kettle of fish,” said Hunt.
“We know our pitch inside out, but we have to use that to our advantage, along with the good home form that I’ve created at the club to put us in good stead for Saturday.
“We need to come out of the traps and have a right go against a really good team. I’ve heard it said that MSB Woolton have surprised a few people, but they’ve not surprised me.
“They’ve got a good group of players, got a good manager there, and they’ll be wanting to get out of this league.
“But there is no reason why we can’t go on another unbeaten run again.
“We’ve done it once, and then we had a blip over Christmas and early January, but hopefully we’ve turned the corner again now.
“We’ve got six games left in the season and the target is go unbeaten and see where we end up in the league.
“For everyone involved, with all the hard work that we’ve all put in since September, we don’t want it to go to waste, and that’s the message that I’ll be delivering again this Saturday.”
