Former Wanderer Victor Adeboyejo has reflected on his tough road back from injury after getting off the mark for Mansfield Town.

Adeboyejo spent nearly a year on the sidelines after suffering a serious knee injury while playing for the Whites.

Upon his return to fitness, the striker completed a permanent move to Field Mill in January and has been building up his sharpness over the past few months.

He opened his account against Bradford in midweek as the Bantams missed an opportunity to climb above Bolton in the table.

“It is something that I’ve just been working hard and thinking about,” Adeboyejo told BBC Radio Nottingham. “Obviously, it had been a long time out injured.

“To be back playing and to score as well is amazing, and getting a point here. It was a tough game against really resolute opposition but we were able to dig out a point.”

“You have just got to keep going at the end of the day,” he added. “The boys have been very supportive of me, they have tried to help me as much as they can. It was just about keep getting in those areas and eventually one will come.”

Mansfield currently sit 15th in the table with a five-point cushion above the drop zone and a couple of games in hand. They also had an FA Cup run, which included a fifth-round tie against Premier League leaders Arsenal.

Adeboyejo is enjoying life at Mansfield working under Nigel Clough, who has a wealth of experience in the EFL.

“The gaffer said it to me the other day in terms of just being calm, understanding that the goal will come and just getting myself in the right areas,” he recalled.

“Regardless of getting the goals, I am still going to put myself about and help the team. Luckily, today it came and hopefully we can go into the next one.

“He is a top, top manager and a top character as well. He gets every little inch from the boys and we try to repay his faith.”
