Daisy Hill go into a double-header of games over the Easter weekend in the North West Counties League First Division North, buoyed by two good wins in the last week.

Victories at Colne last Saturday and at home to Ashton Town on Monday night moved Daisy to within seven points of the play-off places, and with games at Ashton Athletic, tomorrow, and at home to Bacup Borough on Easter Monday, Daisy manager Nicky Hunt is looking for more of the same from his side this weekend.

“They are a young squad, and I keep drilling into them that they’ve got to be right mentally before they even approach the ground where they’re playing,” said Hunt.

“And in these last two games we’ve been mentally spot on, and that’s why we’ve had the good performances, and we’re starting to play really good football now.”

With Ashton Athletic sitting two points from safety in the relegation places, and Bacup having a chance of making the play-offs, there’s no chance of either game being a meaningless end-of-season affair.

And with Daisy’s hopes of a top-five finish still mathematically alive, Hunt is challenging his squad to keep the winning momentum going.

He added: “We’re going into a Saturday-Monday double header again, and I’ll be using my whole squad, undoubtedly, because they’ve had a tough two games now on heavy pitches.

“It’ll be the same at Ashton, and the same again back at home on Monday against Bacup. The games are going to be a tough test for everyone, but we need to relish these games because these are the sorts of games we need to win if we are going to get out of this league.

“I keep saying there’s no easy games, no matter who you’re playing, and Ashton Athletic are fighting relegation, just like Colne last Saturday, and Bacup need the points, too.

“They will both be hard games, but we have got a lot of quality, and if we carry on the good performances that we have shown in the last two games it will get us over the line, and keep moving us up the table”.

Kick off for both Easter weekend matches is 3pm.
