Bolton boxer Joe Peel has advanced to the last eight in the England Boxing National Senior Championships with a unanimous victory in Banbury last weekend.

‘The Real Deal’ Peel now faces last year’s national finalist in Rotherham tomorrow at 63.5kg.

It means he is one step closer to national glory and has a chance to progress further in South Yorkshire this weekend with the quarter-finals tomorrow and the semi-finals 24 hours later.

The Elite Gym fighter was in commanding form throughout last Saturday, with all three judges agreeing on the outcome to send Peel into the last eight in the country.

It is another milestone moment in a career that continues to gather serious momentum at senior level.

Standing between Peel and a place in the semi-finals is last year’s national finalist, Harvey Orris.

Three fights remain for Peel to claim the most prestigious title in English amateur boxing.

Alex Matvienko, head coach and founder of Elite Boxing Gym in Halliwell, said: “Joe boxed a very good opponent from a well-respected gym but showed his class winning a unanimous decision.”

Nineteen-year-old Peel is a four-time North West champion, national youth champion and England representative who claimed silver in the four nations tournament.

Having already claimed the North West Senior title at 62.5kg earlier this season, he is now targeting the ultimate prize at senior level.

With a place in the final firmly in his sights, the Bolton boxing community will be watching closely as one of the most exciting prospects in British amateur boxing steps into the quarter-final spotlight.
