Anthony Johnson hopes his Bury side can keep the goals coming as they prepare to host Workington in the FA Cup.
The Shakers have scored 20 goals in their past four games, hitting seven past Ilkeston Town and eight past Wythenshawe.
Johnson had previously called on his attackers to be more ruthless in the final third and has been impressed with their response.
“The message from me to the players is I don’t want them to be scared of missing,” he said. “For the first few games, that is the impression I got - rather than miss a chance, they would rather not be in that area.
“The best strikers who have ever lived, they have probably averaged something like a one in five in terms of scoring the chances they get. I am saying the same to the players, don't be afraid to be in the area to miss a chance.
“The law of averages will tell you the more you are there, the more opportunities you will get at scoring goals.
“We use that word all the time, being ruthless. You can only use that word if you are getting into those areas. We are creating lots of chances, we are playing attacking football.
“My biggest issue so far, prior to the past couple of weeks, is that we have been inconsistent. If you are not assured in both boxes, you are always going to have that grey area and that is what we don't want.
“We have played nine games, of which we have kept five clean sheets. If you did that over a season, you are probably keeping 22 or 23 clean sheets in a season. And yet we have scored a ridiculous amount of goals.
“But it is when we don't score that we are conceding those soft goals and not winning games. So that is a pattern we have got to try and put right.”
Bury have won six of their opening 10 games this season across the league and cup, despite stepping up into a higher division.
“I think it has been an OK start,” Johnson assessed. “The amount of injuries we have had, the amount of players we have had missing, and the amount of times we have had to change the team every week and not have a consistent run of the same 11, makes it a slightly better start.
“Had we had everyone available to us, I would have 100 per cent expected us to have been at least three or four points better off. Then we would be at two points per game, and that is a great start.
“As I said, it has been really difficult not being able to get the players on the pitch. But I think we are starting to come back now.
“Getting Connor Pye regular minutes over the last few weeks, getting Bobby Carroll back on the pitch, Oscar Threlkeld and Rusty (Stepans) have come back.
“I have got to give a lot of credit to the players. With the inconsistency of selection and being thrown in positions they wouldn't normally play due to players not available, we have done well to get the points on the board that we have.”
