SOUTHAMPTON goalkeeper Daniel Peretz branded his side “sloppy” in their goalless draw against Wanderers on Saturday.

The Saints keeper bemoaned poor finishing at St Mary’s as the club failed to score for the first time at home since New Year’s Day.

Peretz made a vital save in the second half to deny Josh Sheehan from point-blank range – but talk after the final whistle centred on the lack of ruthlessness in front of goal.

"We are frustrated because for sure we want to win every game, especially at home," Peretz told our sister paper, The Daily Echo.

"We were dominant, but I don't think we were focused, and we were a bit too sloppy. It's cost us two points today that we should not be losing.

"We had the ball most of the time, and we had the quality to do it, so we need to be more focused and more clinical.

"At least we had a clean sheet, a really good defensive game from all the team so that's good consistency, but we're frustrated because we want to win."

Southampton sit seventh in the table, six points behind current leaders Swansea City, having had four docked this season.

Only Millwall had stopped them scoring at home in 2026 but Peretz was also pleased to see a third clean sheet in a row.

"Clean sheets are a team thing; it's not a 'keeper thing," Peretz noted.

"The whole team worked really hard to achieve that and also the staff went in a lot of details how to improve the team's defensive game.

"I'm really happy that we made the next step because it helped us to not lose the game when you keep a clean sheet. But we need to score."

Both Wanderers and Southampton had 14 shots on goal in Saturday’s game at St Mary’s, with the Whites recording three shots on target to their two.

The Saints have not been especially wasteful this season, boasting an xG of plus 0.86 on the 21 they have recorded in the first 11 games.

Wanderers (52) have recorded more shots on target this term than the Tonda Eckert’s side (48) but Southampton’s conversion rate of 12.57 per cent is higher than Bolton’s at 9.87 per cent.
