ARNSIDE caused an upset of the day in the Black Dragon Senior Challenge Cup when they beat Trimpell 2-1.

The result remained in doubt until the final whistle in this third-round tie.

Veteran Steven Pearson opened the scoring for Arnside and David Holt replied for Trimpell, but the game was won when a Trimpell defender, under pressure, put the ball past his own keeper for what turned out to be the winning goal.

Cartmel, runners-up to Highgrove in last season’s competition. gained some revenge by knocking out the holders with five minutes left of a pulsating tie.

Both sides attacked at every opportunity but defences were well on top. The deciding goal came after an intense spell of pressing with Joel Drinkall proving to be Cartmel’s hero when he finished a good move.

In round four Cartmel will be at home to the winners of the Tic Dynamos/ Galgate tie.

In the Sam Price Memorial Cup, Ingleton should have had the first-round tie wrapped up against Bowerham.

Ingleton missed many chances before getting on the scoresheet through Andy Smith and David Whitfield, but Bowerham’s Andy Strachan grabbed one back.

Bowerham went all out for an equaliser but the experienced Ingleton defence held firm.

In round two Ingleton will be away to the winners of the Tic Dynamos/Kirkby Lonsdale tie.

Carnforth Rangers cruised into the semi-final when they overran Galgate 6-0. Steve Oliver (4) led the way to goal, with Byron Nixon and Mark Plevey all on target.

In the semi-final they will be away to the winners of the Marsh United/Morecambe Royals tie.

In the Remembrance Cup Bentham Reserves romped to a 10-2 win over Overton.

The Bentham goals came from Thomas Burns (3), Darren Thompson, Tomi Tatham (2), Jake Fawcett (3) and Matthew France. In round two Bentham will be at home to neighbours Ingleton Reserves.

Cartmel Reserves veteran Brian Lowery scored twice to give his side a 2-0 lead against strugglers Cartmel Reserves in the competition’s second round.

Halton never gave up and got their reward with Billy Duckworth scoring with a fantastic free kick, but it was not enough to prevent defeat.

In the Premier Division a much weakened Bentham faced second-placed Tic Dynamos and defended well.

They had no option as they had manager Graham Cochrane as emergency keeper.

The Bentham tactics made Dynamos work hard for its 3-0 win with gooals from Robert Goldborough, sub MartinLewis and .....

Storeys moved back to the top of the table when they beat Slyne with Hest in a hard fought game.

Millhead upset Swarthmoor SC 2-1 in an often bad tempered game with goals from Andy Markham and Matthew Palmer. In reply Mike Thomsett scored for Swarthmoor.

In the semi-final Millhead will be at home to Freehold FC.

In league matches Highgrove Reserves beat Ingleton Reserves 3-2, reversing an earlier 4-1.

Young Callum Rogers gave Highgrove an early lead, Darren McDermott and Phil Mitchell scored the others.

Ingleton’s scorers were Alex Hartley and John Connaughton.

Bolton le Sands overcame an improved Overton and Middleton to go back to the top. The game hinged on two brilliant Sands goals from Steve Blessington and Tom Moran against a side striving to stay in the division.

In Division Two the Grange and Allithwaite Rangers derby turned out to be a cracker.

Allithwaite took an early lead through Trevor Rowlandson with a simple chance whne left unmarked at the back post. The rest of the game was played mainly in Allithwaite’s half, but Grange could not capitalise as they lost by the single goal as Allithwaite moved top, three points clear of Torrisholme.

Kirkby Lonsdale Reserves beat Caton United Reserves in a seven-goal thriller.

Man of the match for Kirkby was Liam Gordon with a great hat trick, Dean Mason scoring a fourth and winning goal. Caton replied with goals from Dan Hurtley, Jeremy Richards and Tony Edmondson.

Carnforth Rangers Reserves had an easier win than they expected when they beat an out of sorts Slyne Reserves that just could not get going. The better football was played by the Carnforth side resulting in goals from recent signing Mitchell Dyson (2), Michael Michalak, Adam Iley and Glenn Russell. This win moves Carnforth up four places to a challenging fourth position.

In the Fairclough/Woodruff/Parkinson/Collegian Cup 2nd Round AFc Moorlands dusted off the rust and played just well enough to beat Bolton le Sands Reserves in an even game. The Moorlands side had just too much fire power in attack for the fragile defence of Bolton Le Sands. Andy Woodcock and Andy Bushell scored the goals to send AFc Moorlands into the semi-final where they will play Morecambe Gold.

In League matches Heysham dropped two valuable promotion points when they were held to a 1-1 draw against Burton Thistle. Heysham took the lead when Joel Crabtree scored a wonderful goal when he headed in from a cross into the box. Heysham looked capable of holding onto the lead, but in the 80th tragedy struck when their keeper was injured and he had to leave the field. Burton got into the game more and with just five minutes remaining Peter Baxendale levelled the scores. Heysham increased its lead at the top to four points from the leading group.

Burton Thistle Reserves’ second-round tie saw them go 4-0 down after a Warren Calvert hat-trick and a Darren Kerr effort. Two quick Thistle goals from brothers Gary and Jack Brown offered hope but they could not add to their tally and lost 4-2.

Arnside Reserves beat Ingleton A side 4-1 with goals from Jamie Thornton, Joe Taylor, James Barr and Jack Burke. Ingleton’s consolation came Craig Mottram.
