MARCOS Alonso hopes to get his injury plagued season up and running after making his return to full training.

The Spanish full-back has been sidelined since the victory over Blackburn Rovers at Ewood Park in December but reported for duty at Euxton this morning.

Alonso had suffered a broken foot in Wanderers’ Carling Cup victory over Macclesfield Town in August, ruling him out for four months, and was carried off just two games into his return, later requiring surgery to replace a pin in his metatarsal.

The 21-year-old is now hoping his fortunes take a turn for the better.

“I have been unlucky for the last year and a half but hopefully this is the last injury I’ll have,” he told The Bolton News.

“I’m just looking forward to helping the team stay in the Premier League now.

“I feel like I have got the gaffer’s confidence after the last couple of games I played but now I just want to get back out there, get training and pray it doesn’t happen again.”

Alonso is likely to feature for the reserves in forthcoming away games at Everton and Manchester City before challenging Sam Ricketts and Paul Robinson for a place in the first team set up. And the former Real Madrid product is confident that with the right preparation he can get back in Owen Coyle’s thoughts once again.

“It is a good challenge to have,” he said. “I feel good about coming back. At Fulham in my last game I felt really fit after working hard to get back from my last injury, and now I feel the same.

“I felt I played well and Blackburn was even better. It feels like every chance I have had I played better than the last one, so that’s what I have to keep trying to do.

“I have seen Sam Ricketts get back and play well after a bad injury but the best example I can use is me. I was out for eight weeks, played for the reserves and felt better each game, and then played at the right time.”
