Amir Khan insists he can shock Terence Crawford and prove he still belongs among the boxing elite.

Bolton’s former unified world champion is bidding to wrestle the WBO World welterweight crown from Crawford at Madison Square Garden in New York on Saturday night.

The Nebraska native, who has won all 34 of his fights, is widely regarded as one of the best pound-for-pound fighters on the planet.

But Khan, now 32, is confident he can upset the odds and reach the summit of his sport once again.

“I wanted this fight because I wanted to fight the best,” said the Olympic silver medallist, 33-4 as a professional.

“Terence Crawford presented the greatest challenge to me at this point in my career.

“Listen, the Kell Brook fight was there, but fighting Terence gives me the opportunity to show I am a pound-for-pound fighter.

“I am confident I can win this fight because he has never fought anyone like me.

“I have power, speed, and movement, and he has certainly never fought a welterweight like me.

“I'm not just another number on Crawford's record.”

The pair took part in an open workout for the media on Tuesday with a press conference and weigh in to come before Saturday’s fight.

Crawford, 31, will be taking part in his 13th straight world title fight with major unification nights at 147lb on the horizon should he get past Khan.

"I feel like I'm already the best pound-for-pound fighter in the world,” he said.

“Beating Amir Khan would only solidify my place in the sport.

“Amir Khan is undefeated as a welterweight and can't be underestimated.

“He has great hand speed, movement, and some power as well. I want to showcase all of my talents in this fight.

"I don't worry about the bigger names. My focus is on Amir Khan. He is the task at hand. I've never overlooked an opponent."
