After Saturday's WBO welterweight title fight, Amir Khan is faced with rebuilding his career.

Here are some of the Bolton fighter's options after his controversial and bizarre defeat in New York.

Retire

After his fifth defeat and fourth inside the distance, Khan may struggle to attract the lucrative offers he will expect to fight on. The strange manner of defeat at Madison Square Garden might not help either.

The welterweight division is gradually leaving him behind and therefore his hopes of becoming a two-weight world champion are moving beyond him.

There also remains the possibility that each subsequent fight since that devastating knockout by Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez when he jumped up two weight classes to middleweight is damaging to his health.

Kell Brook

Though lacking the appeal it once had, a match-up between Khan and his long-term domestic rival would still prove significant.

If he is not to win another world title or again fight another of the world's biggest names, a victory over Brook would be a fitting way for Khan to end his entertaining career.

Making that fight happen will be easier said than done though with some fight fans feeling the wait has gone on too long already.

Danny Garcia II

If accepting Saul Alvarez, a middleweight, is beyond his talents, a rematch with Garcia would present Khan with his highest-profile chance to avenge one of his five defeats.

Garcia remains a significant fighter but, if still capable of performing to his best as Khan demonstrated during that defeat in 2012 until he got caught, the Briton may have his beating.
