LANCASHIRE’s Karl Brown insists “I never doubted my ability to score hundreds” after posting three figures for only the second time in his LV= County Championship career on Saturday.

The 27-year-old opener from Bolton converted his seventh 50 in 12 innings this season into a first hundred since the opening match of the 2011 season during his county’s ongoing match against Glamorgan at Emirates Old Trafford, which looks to be heading for a draw ahead of today’s fourth day.

Brown has played 63 Championship matches in all since debuting in 2008, with his record now standing at 18 50s and two hundreds from 100 innings.

He hit 17 boundaries in 132 off 292 balls in Lancashire’s first-innings 462 all out, which Glamorgan responded to with 182-6 through the majority of yesterday’s weather-affected third day.

“I have felt good all season, and to get over the line and get three figures is a really nice feeling,” he said, having hit two scores in the nineties already this summer.

“But I believed it was always going to happen, and I just needed that bit of luck I didn't have previously.

“I never doubted my ability to score hundreds. It has just taken longer than I wanted it to. I have had to work on a few things technically, and I feel now I am in a position to score more hundreds.

“I didn't have any doubts during the innings when I got out in the nineties. I thought I was going to get a hundred in the other innings too, they just didn't go my way, Thankfully here, it did.

“I have played well in one-day cricket almost all the way through my career.

“Championship cricket is the one that I have struggled more with, and it is nice to have some consistency this year. Hopefully, I can continue that now for the next few seasons.”

Alex Davies missed out on his maiden hundred by five runs on Saturday, while Steven Croft hit 67 and James Faulkner 63.

There were only 52.2 overs bowled yesterday as Glamorgan advanced from 48-1, including a top-score of 45 from night-watchman Andrew Salter.

Glen Chapple and Faulkner took two wickets apiece, while Simon Kerrigan had Salter stumped by birthday boy Alex Davies, 21 yesterday.
