DAISY Hill managed to stay joint top of the West Lancashire Cricket League table last weekend, despite suffering a crushing home defeat by Preston.

Batting first Daisy only reached 115 before being bowled out, with Mike Leeming (29) and Jack Sleigh (26) the only players showing any resistance to the Preston bowlers.

In reply, the visitors lost only two wickets finishing on 118 in 25 overs.

Blackrod travelled to unbeaten Burscough for their game and pulled off an unlikely victory.

Batting first, the visitors struggled to 132 all out, with only Captain Chris Readey (60) and Matthew Readey (20) reaching double figures.

However, Burscough were in trouble after losing their first three wickets with only 10 runs on the board, courtesy of Matthew Readey’s bowling.

After the poor start Burscough struggled and with wickets falling steadily they could only reach 120 before being bowled out.

Rob Glaysher (50no) and Philip Bradley-Jones (23) the only run-scorers of note for the home side.

In Division Two, unbeaten Atherton continued their winning streak at home to Bradshaw.

The visitors batted first and scored 129-5 from their 35 overs.

Mike Buckley scored 68 of Bradshaw’s runs and David Baines took all five Bradshaw wickets to finish with 38-5 off 10 overs.

Having taken two behind the stumps for Atherton, opening batsman and wicketkeeper Jack Welch then batted throughout to finish on 85 not out, with Atherton cruising home with three overs to spare. Bradshaw’s Marcus Haslam picked up 3-38 off nine overs.
