FARNWORTH, Eagley, Astley Bridge and Darcy Lever kicked off their Anthony Axford Indoor Cricket Trophy campaigns with victories on Sunday.

In the second week of the annual competition for Bolton Cricket League clubs at Bolton School, the final matches of the first round started with Farnworth taking on Kearsley.

After losing the toss, Farnworth were put in to bat and posted 109-2, Ross Sutton top scoring with 26.

He was ably supported by Simon Booth (23) and Imran Mirza (22) with Cameron Murray the pick of the bowlers with 1-25 off his three overs.

In reply, Kearsley scored 102-5, Adeel Baig top scoring with 35 not out and Abdullah Ishak taking 2-25 for Farnworth.

In the second game of the day Eagley won the toss and decided to bowl first against Heaton.

Oliver Sutcliffe and Joe Ball got their side off to a good start with both finishing unbeaten on 26 and 25, respectively.

The first wicket fell with the score on 76 and Eagley managed to slow down the scoring rate, keeping the two retired batsmen from going back on.

Heaton finished on 92-1 with Eagley's James Fallows taking 1-12 off his three overs.

Eagley passed the target for the loss of three wickets with Jake O’Byrne top scoring with 26 not out.

Astley Bridge then beat Adlington, replying to 84-4 with 86-1.

Adlington won the toss and elected to bat, Andrew Leyland scoring 27 not out.

Astley Bridge's successful reply was dominated by their opening partnership of Mim Patel (25 not out) and Addie Cooper (26 not out).

The final game of the day saw Darcy Lever take on Blackrod who won the toss and decided to bowl first.

Darcy's 98-4 – in which Gareth Hopkinson and Andrew Patel both scored 22 – was too challenging for Blackrod who were then all out for 69, Owen Moss top scoring for them with 37.
