RADCLIFFE Boro manager Andy Johnston is positive about the proposed plans to create a new UniBond division next season.

As it stands, Boro will be affected after this season's relegation and will drop down into one of the new divisions that replaces the current UniBond Division One.

The revised structure will see the UniBond League operating with two first divisions each comprising eighteen clubs. The additional division will require a further twelve clubs to move up from current step five leagues with the North West Counties, Northern Counties East and Midlands Football Alliance each providing a minimum of three clubs.

The Northern League will also provide two clubs with both Durham City and Newcastle Blue Star committed to moving up the National League structure.

"I haven't looked at it really close yet, but it looks a sensible idea," said Johnston. "It should involve less travelling and create more derbies.

"The idea is that all league games will be on a Saturday, with cup games in mid-week. We would prefer it to be 20 teams, rather than 18 but we wouldn't lose too much money from playing lesser games.

"That is because we shouldn't have as many demands on our playing squad with not having to play twice a week and that means our wage bill should come down."

Everything is still very much at the planning stage, but as it stands Boro will be in with the following teams next season: Bamber Bridge, Bradford Park Avenue, Bridlington Town, Brigg Town, Chorley, Clitheroe, Durham City, FC United of Manchester, Garforth Town, Goole, Harrogate Railway, Newcastle Blue Star, Ossett Albion, Rossendale United, Salford City, Skelmersdale United and Wakefield.
