WANDERERS remain adamant only an “exceptional” offer on deadline day will make them relinquish their grip on top scorer Gary Madine.

The Bolton News understands a total of FOUR bids from Cardiff City have now been turned down for the 27-year-old target man – but the signs are Neil Warnock will chance his arm again before tonight’s 11pm deadline.

It is believed Madine has been tempted with a contract worth more than twice his current salary at Bolton to join the promotion-chasing Bluebirds. But Wanderers have thus far held firm, with none of the Welsh club’s offers coming close to Ken Anderson’s valuation, reported to be £6million.

The Whites have been in deep discussion with Madine’s representatives for more than a week trying to pin him down to a new improved deal, negotiations which appeared to be reaching a conclusion at the weekend.

But Cardiff’s renewed interest has prompted a fresh wave of speculation over his future and rumours swept around the Macron yesterday that Feyenoord’s burly front man Michiel Kramer was being lined-up as a potential replacement.

While the Madine situation may be cause for concern on deadline day for Bolton fans, there is also plenty to look forward to, including the impending return of midfielder Chung-Yong Lee.

Hopes are high the South Korea international will sign a loan deal to the end of the season after his involvement in Crystal Palace’s Premier League clash with West Ham last night.

Reece Burke and Josh Cullen were also involved at the London Stadium, and depending on the Hammers’ luck in the transfer market today they could yet be loaned back to Wanderers.

Phil Parkinson wants a striker – and has enquired about Nottingham Forest’s Tyler Walker, among others – and may need to bring in a utility player if Burke and Cullen are kept on by David Moyes.

Wanderers are keen to reduce their squad size, overall, and that could also see two or three players heading out on loan.

Two North West-based League One clubs enquired about Adam Le Fondre last week, and it is understood one of the teams has also made an offer for Aaron Wilbraham.
