ANDY Bishop can think of no better time to surpass yet another goalscoring milestone than the Rochdale derby at Gigg Lane.

The sought-after striker needs just one more goal to pass 70 in his last three seasons, a total virtually unmatched at this level of the game.

Stakes could barely be higher for Rochdale, as they come needing a win to keep alive their chances of automatic promotion. Having not escaped the bottom division for over 30 years, many Dale fans believe this could finally be their year.

But Bishop would find delight in ending a barren streak stretching seven games, and putting a dampener on their rivals' hopes.

"It has been a long run, but I'd settle for two against Rochdale to bring me to 25 for the season, that would be perfect timing really," he said.

"I played in the derby last season and I know it is the biggest game of the year for the fans.

"It's great to play in, I got two goals last year and to get something like that again would be amazing."

A crowd well in excess of 6,000 is expected at Gigg tomorrow with a large army of travelling supporters expected to make the trip.

For their part, the home fans have also pledged to swell the gates, launching an internet campaign to bring a friend' through the turnstiles.

And what better time to watch the Shakers, bang in form with a record of five consecutive home wins to protect.

"The expectation around here now is unreal," agreed Bishop. "The lads we have got have done very well recently and if we can add two or three players over the summer then it is looking very good for next season. That will bring more fans out.

"The players do appreciate it. Against Rochdale there will be an atmosphere just as good as it was against Southampton or Leeds in the cups this year and as a player, it does help you. It's an amazing feeling."

Efe Sodje is a doubt with an ankle injury but Brian Barry-Murphy and Andy Parrish have returned to training.
