Wanderers are facing another fixture shuffle in the New Year after this weekend’s FA Cup second round.

Victory for Forest Green against non-league Alvechurch means they will be involved in the third round, which takes place on the weekend of January 7/8, 2023.

Wanderers are due to play the Gloucestershire side at the University of Bolton Stadium, so will now need to move the League One fixture.

Another game for which the club has been keen to set a date is Portsmouth away, which was originally intended to take place in September but was postponed because of international call-ups.

Pompey beat MK Dons 3-2 on Saturday to book their place in the FA Cup third round, scuppering any chance that the rearranged game at Fratton Park could take place on January 7.

Wanderers are currently discussing a new date with both Portsmouth and Forest Green but hope to confirm the details shortly.

Ian Evatt’s side face a busy December with five league games and a Papa Johns Trophy last 16 tie against Manchester United’s Under-21s – a fixture which is provisionally due to be played on December 13, which would clash with an England fixture, should they progress to the semi-finals of the World Cup.

Wanderers face Bristol Rovers on Friday night, having moved the match so as not to clash with the Three Lions’ potential second round game, and have also pulled kick-off at Shrewsbury on December 10 back to 12.30pm to enable fans to avoid any issues with the quarter-finals.
