A RALLYING call has gone out to Radcliffe Borough’s supporters club, which meets tonight at Stainton Park.

David Greenough was instrumental in relaunching the fans’ group in October after several months of inactivity, but is worried the initial resurgence in interest may be falling away.

Greenough, who also runs the club shop from the portable building at one end of the ground as well as publishing the club newsletter, does not want the supporters club to become a “one-man-band”.

The 43-year-old businessman said: “Supporting Radcliffe Borough is a fantastic experience, better than being a fan of any league club.

“But the danger is that once you show willing you can tend to be asked to take on roles that can be too much for you.

“We were keen when we relaunched the supporters club that there would be a committee of people of between six and eight who would come up with new ideas and initiatives to take the club forward – not just one person – but that has gone by the wayside a little bit.”

Greenough is now planning a meeting next Thursday, January 15, with his committee.

He added: “I want to see if people are prepared to be a little more proactive and take on roles. We need to discuss where we are now and where we are going.”

Boro director of football Gerry Luczka, who is due to attend tonight’s meeting in the Boro Club, added his voice to Greenough’s when he said: “The supporters are this football club.

“They are an extremely important element within the club. We have a responsibility on the field to play and the fans have the same responsibility to make sure that they help us produce the goods. We are one team – the management, the fans and the players and it’s crucial that we all remember that.”
