FORMER Bury youngster Sam Allardyce has joined Oxford United.
The 18-year-old central defender, the grandson of the former Wanderers and England boss, left the Shakers at the end of the season and has now moved to the Kassam Stadium.
Previously part of Manchester United's academy, Allardyce has signed a one-year contract with the U's.
“I came and had a look round and was really impressed with the way the club is set up and the way that Karl Robinson likes to try and help young players," he said after sealing the move to the League One club.
"It’s a big move for me, away from home and at an important stage of my career.
"I’ll come here and give it my all and am determined to make the most of the opportunity.”
U's boss Robinson is looking forward to seeing how Allardyce develops in the months to come.
“Sam is an old-school defender," he said.
"He reads the game really well and wants to win every ball and every header.
"He is still quite raw but he has this real passion for the game and a natural enthusiasm."
