Danny Mayor has left Bury to link up with former Shakers boss Ryan Lowe at Plymouth Argyle.

The Bury Times revealed last Thursday that the playmaker would leave at the end of his contract after helping the Gigg Lane club to promotion from League Two for a second time.

It has now been confirmed he is heading to Devon with the 28-year-old’s six-year stint with the Shakers at an end.

Ipswich Town were also linked with Mayor but the chance to work with Lowe again looks to have sealed the deal.

He joined Bury initially on loan in 2013 before making the move permanent.

In all, Mayor made 235 appearances for the Shakers, scoring 36 goals and assisting another 42.

The winger was officially unveiled at Home Park on Monday afternoon and sent a message to Shakers faithful via former team-mate Nicky Adams.

Writing in a message on Twitter, he said: “I just wanted to say a huge thank you to the fans, staff and players connected to Bury FC.

“I have been at Bury for six years and I have loved it. It has been an absolute pleasure to play at Gigg Lane, especially this season.

“I am gutted to be leaving, even more so under the circumstances where it has been taken out of my hands but they cannot take away the great memories J have from the place. Nobody can take away the two promotions we got together.

“The fans deserve better than what’s happened to their beloved club and I hope it gets sorted sooner rather than later.

“Thank you for everything.”

Mayor becomes the latest high profile departure with the club in the midst of a financial crisis, Nicky Adams also having found a new home at Northampton with Jay O’Shea moving to Australia to join Brisbane Roar.

Nicky Maynard also announced on social media at the weekend that he will leave the club this summer.
