BURY FC fans and past players came together to celebrate the club’s past on a special day at Radcliffe FC.

More than 2,000 fans packed into the Neuven Stadium for a Legends against All Stars game as fans were able to forget the club’s problems for a few hours on Sunday.

Ryan Lowe, David Buchanan and Andy Bishop were among the players in action with the match itself ending 6-6.

Stan Ternent and Neil Danns made surprise appearances to join Nicky Adams, Lenny Johnrose, Tony Rigby and others as some of those who made a return in a non-playing capacity.

With a shirt auction following an action-packed 90 minutes, more than £20,000 was raised on the day, the money set to go towards a Bury phoenix club that is set to be formalised in the near future.

The Bolton News:

“It was about bringing the community together,” said Chris Murray, who organised the day with fellow fans Dean Mason and Ben Miles.

“The fundraising obviously goes hand in hand because people really bought into by not only coming along but buying shirts, raffle tickets and everything else.

“It went better than planned in all fairness.

“A couple of the players dropped out at the last minute but it went really well. We were able to give the fans’ team goalkeepers a game.

“It was a bit stressful, I didn’t see any of the game! I was going round the ground sorting things like the golden gamble and stuff like that out. But the feedback we’ve had from everyone is that they loved it.”
