RADCLIFFE have announced the capture of former Bury midfielder Stephen Dawson.

The ex-Shakers skipper is the first new arrival for new manager Lee Fowler and joins following a brief stint with Hereford.

The 34-year-old was first at Gigg Lane from 2008 to 2010 before returning in 2017.

He suffered a serious knee injury weeks into his return however and his frustrations continued last season, Dawson making just seven appearances in all competitions, the last coming in the defeat at Mansfield on Boxing Day 2018.

During his final days at Gigg Lane, the experienced campaigner hit the headlines by having a confrontation with Shakers owner Steve Dale live on talkSPORT as the club's crisis deepened.

Dawson amassed nearly 500 Football League appearances with Bury, Mansfield, Leyton Orient, Barnsley, Rochdale and Scunthorpe and is now tasked with helping Boro’s new era.

Fowler has also announced that former Liverpool midfielder David Thompson will be his assistant manager.

The 42-year-old brings a wealth of experience to the Neuven Stadium having also played for Coventry, Blackburn, Wigan and Portsmouth before finishing his career at Bolton.
