GARETH Seddon scored what proved to be his final goal for the Shakers in a 1-1 draw against York City that all-but consigned the Minstermen to relegation in 2004.
All the talk was about whether the striker, who had scored eight goals in his previous 11 games, would sign another deal at Gigg Lane.
York’s 75-year stay in the Football League was hanging by a thread but after Seddon had put Graham Barrow’s side ahead the visitors fashioned a goal that was made in Bury.
Jon Newby, formerly of the parish, put one on a plate for Liam George – ending York’s wait of 400 minutes for a league goal.
They should have scored more, too, with Seddon adding: “For the first 20 minutes they looked like the poorest side in the league.
“We could have been two or three up. But once we got the goal we relaxed and stopped doing our jobs and they came back into it.
“They got their equaliser and their confidence shot up. In the end they looked the better side and the team more likely to win.”
Popular front man Seddon had 11 goals for the season but failed to agree terms with Bury and signed for Rushden and Diamonds the following summer.

1986 Businessman Hugh Eaves arrived to plough £250,000 into the club – promising to pay off all the Shakers’ debt.
The London stockbroker bought up more than 50 per cent of the shares at Gigg Lane just three months after joining the board.
Eaves had big plans for Bury, declaring: “One only has to look at the achievements of Oxford United and Wimbledon in recent years, both on limited budgets, to see what can be done.”
1992 Bury were given the go-ahead for a £1.2million facelift for Gigg Lane after the award of a massive grant from the Football Trust.
The work saw the removal of wooden seats and flooring, a new police control box and the installation of CCTV.
2014 Hallam Hope scored a hat-trick as the Shakers fought out a thrilling 4-4 draw against Portsmouth.
