CHRIS Casper has passed on a message of support for the newest manager in League Two - even if the offer only lasts for seven days.

The Bury chief has backed Ian Brightwell, now caretaker manager at the Shakers' next opponents Macclesfield Town to impress at Moss Rose, with the Cheshire club currently bottom of the league.

The Shakers have a weekend to put their feet up after their Sunday fixture against Wrexham was called off due to international call-ups. And having been thrust into a similar situation last season when he took over from Graham Barrow, Casper says Brightwell will face a stiff challenge in the weeks ahead.

"It won't be easy for him, a real baptism of fire, as I well know," he said.

"He will learn more in the next three or four weeks about himself than he is ever going to do, but it is a great opportunity for him.

"I have spoken to him on a few occasions and played against him a few times, and I know Ian will be ready for what is in store."

The Wrexham game has now been rescheduled at Gigg Lane for Tuesday, November 7.
