BREIGHTMET’S Mark Berry and his passenger Adam Illman lifted the Aintree Sidecars F2 title with one meeting to spare, after a trio of victories at the Tonfanau (Crewe & South Yorkshire) Championship on their Jacobs Suzuki 600.
The self-employed gardener also claimed a win at the 2015 Hoghton Tower Sprint where he finished first in both the 250cc and sidecar class with his wife Selina as passenger.
They achieved a new modern sidecar class record of 7.7 seconds, breaking the old 8.1secs record which had stood since 2006.
Berry, aged 42, belongs to the Aintree Motorcycle Racing Club and competes at circuits all over the country including Darley Moor (Derbyshire), Anglesey (North-West Wales) and Cadwell Park in Lincolnshire.
He has been a motorcycle racer for the past decade and has been racing sidecars for three years.
He said: “Me and Adam thought we would finish third, so we were very surprised to win the championship.”
