BOLTON 1st XI suffered the their second defeat in the opening two games with a 4-2 setback at home to Prescott in North West League Division Three North.

They dominated the early stages but went behind against the run of play only to hit back within five minutes with a powerful shot from Damien Pearse following excellent interplay with Joel Reiss.

Prescott scored twice and Bolton pulled the score back to 3-2 when James Beamish made a rare forward run from right-back and showed great composure to slot a shot under the oncoming goalkeeper after being found by Martin Luke.

The visitors sealed the game with their fourth goal, leaving Bolton knowing they need to improve on their first two performances if they are to challenge for promotion.

Bolton Ladies' 1st XI went down to a 4-1 defeat away to Harrogate 1st XI in the North Hockey League Women’s League Division One.

Bolton 3rd XI lost an 11-goal thriller at home to City of Manchester in the North West League Division North Five North/South.

Bolton went ahead before Manchester came back strongly and took control of the game with three scrappy goals.

James Greenwood halved the deficit seconds before half time and, after Manchester went 4-2 up in the second half, Bolton stormed back to level.

Manchester scored next, and Bolton equalised before the visitors had the final word with a deflected shot.

Bolton Badgers went down 4-1 at Bowdon, Tom Proctor putting the visitors ahead after seven minutes before Bowdon scored three goals in the second quarter.

Bolton rallied to control the third quarter before tiredness set in an Bowden scored again in the final quarter.
