THE Team Deane shirt is turning up in a number of far-flung parts of the world thanks to one of its founder members Russell Brooks.

He and his partner Louise Mort recently competed in the Egmund En Zee half marathon in Holland and are off to Morocco next week to do the Marrakesh Marathon.

The pair do take part in runs close to home like regular runners, but they also like to experience the more unusual events.

“We did a lot of the local parkruns and just wanted to do something with a difference,” said Louise, of Sharples.

“So we decided to do this one in Holland and the Marrakesh Marathon.

“We’ve got the Pennine Moors Double Marathon coming up in March and looking to go abroad and do an Ironman this year.

“I’ve done two Ironmans in the past and Russ has done eight. He’s 50 this year and he wants to celebrate it by getting up to 10 Ironmans.

“It’s all really just for the challenge and because we love running and doing something different.

“Russ just likes to fly the Team Deane flag abroad and get its name known as much as he can. He was one of the founder members and all the people at the club know him as Uncle Russ.”

Russ and Louise were among more than 18,000 entrants in the testing Egmund En Zee half marathon and completed the trail race across beach, trails and pathways of the seaside town and Russ completed it in 1hr 42mins with Louise clocking 1:52.
