LOSTOCK'S Albert Sunter, Tony Marlow, Michele Sunter and Josie Greenhalgh headed to Slaidburn in the Forest of Bowland for the Marmott Dark Mountain marathon.

The event takes the usual mountain marathon format of racing over two days with an overnight camp, and condenses it into one night of orienteering that tests competitor's fitness and navigational skills to the limit.

Competing in pairs and in both the linear and score format, all the Lostockers achieved podium finishes in their respective races and age group.

Albert Sunter and Marlow were ninth overall and third in age group in the long score event, Greenhalgh and partner Catherine Wilson were sixth overall and second women's pair in the C class race, while Michele Sunter and partner Mark Salmon were first mixed vets and seventh overall in the short score race.

Closer to home James Jackson continued to show excellent early season form, finishing fourth overall and first in his age group at Haigh Hall parkrun.

Cathy Stratton turned in another strong time of 25mins to finish second in her age group. Paul O'Brien and his daughter Fern finished in 27:21 while Helen Mather was fourth in age group in a time of 28:56.
