LOSTOCKER James Jackson took his early-season form to Manchester at the weekend for the Run Heaton Park 10k and put in a fine display.
Despite symptoms of flu and nausea, Jackson turned in a time of 42mins 49secs to finish 12th out of a field of 324.
Talking after the race Jackson acknowledged the nausea had affected his performance and that while he could run faster at that distance, the performance was a strong base for a varied season that will include duathlon and triathlon as well as road racing.
Similarly, Cathy Stratton laid down a strong marker for her season with a time of 50:54 which saw her home as 14th woman and second in her age group.
Josie Greenhalgh had a similarly strong performance at the Tawd Valley North West Night League orienteering event, finishing third on the blue 6.3k course, while Mark Shuttleworth posted a time of 21:53 to finish 41st overall and sixth in his age group at the Worsley Wood parkrun.
