HORWICH Hockey Club ladies kicked off the new year with a draw and a victory over the weekend.

They fought back from going 2-0 down to goals just before half time and 15 minutes from time to draw 2-2 at home to Stockport Bramhall's second team on Saturday.

They refused to lie down and pulled one back when Zoe Bluer got on the end of a cross, and equalised in the final minute when Heather Glynn put the ball over the line in a goalmouth scramble to earn a well-deserved draw.

Horwich were back in action the following day when they beat Bolton ladies' second team 1-0 in the semi-final of the Divisional Cup.

In blustery conditions there was nothing to separate the two teams with Bolton forcing a great save from Zoe Dudley, and Becky Howarth clearing the ball off the line marginally before a Bolton attacker could sweep it in.

At the other end some great passing led to a well-deserved winning goal, a first for the team from Zoe Searson.

It was a fraught last 10 minutes with Bolton pressing for the equaliser but Horwich held firm and secured their place in the cup final in April.

Also on Sunday, Horwich ladies' second team drew 2-2 at Didsbury Northern's seventh team.

Horwich drew first blood on 13 minutes with player-of-the-day Alicia Paris Fairclough finding Megan Dixon who scored.

It was 2-0 a minute after the break when Dixon converted a pass from Zara Kour.

Didsbury fought back and scored twice in the last 20 minutes.
