THIS week’s delve into the picture archives at The Bolton News has unearthed this photograph of Thornleigh College sixth form football team from October 1991.

They are pictured receiving a new strip from Ken Heathcote of Bolton Health Studios.

The information accompanying the picture says the team won the Under-16s Bolton Borough Cup that year.

Do you remember that team or recognise anyone in the line-up?

Did you play for them or have any memories of winning silverware?

THE second picture of Little Hulton FC from 1982 was featured in the sporting nostalgia section in the January 10 edition of The Bolton News and brought back memories for several people.

Reader Jimmy Lee remembers the Little Hulton team and that Hospital Cup final against Eagley Viscom.

He said: “I remember Little Hulton played in an Argentina coloured kit and lost 2-1 with the last kick of the game.

“Their goalie was man-of-the-match.

“Steve Holmes came on for Little Hulton and scored.

“I remember afterwards Arthur Pawson threw his boots at the dressing room door at Burnden Park in disgust and he never played again.

“Neil McIntyre went on to play for Ashton Town.

“In the late 1980s/early 1990s Little Hulton went on to win it.

“I had a short while as manager before leaving for Blackpool Wren Rovers.

“The team pictured was, back from left, Johnny Worthington, Paul Craig, Arthur Pawson, Mike Ayres, Barry Gunn, Steve Holmes, Johnny Dixon; front, Neil McIntyre, Michael Blood, Steve Willison, Andy Constantine and Steve Ayres.”

John Roberts added: "I was at the game and involved with Eagley FC at the time.

"We had decided to video the game, think it was a first, from the Manny Road Stand and hired all the gear from a video shop on Blackburn Road.

"While we were lugging it into the ground a guy said to us 'why don't you do a proper job and take it onto the roof' to that television box they had at the top of the stands.

"Well, it took me and the right honourable Mr Kevin Richard Harwood ages to get the stuff up there – it wasn't a hand-held phone in those days, you had a camera like Del boy had in Only Fools and Horses, and four packs of batteries in metal suitcases.

"Anyway, it was all worth it in the end – Eagley won thanks to a outstanding man-of-the-match performance in goal by keeper Derek Howarth.

"I think the video is still knocking about somewhere but ended up being X-rated as the sound only picked up me and the Earl swearing all through the match!"

More readers' recollections of Little Hulton FC will be included in next week's sporting nostalgia section.
