BURNDEN ladies again dominated at the third meeting of the South East Lancs Cross Country league at Heaton Park.

Anne Ferguson took her third successive L60 prize in the series in a time of 34mins 24secs to further tighten her grip on the overall L60 title.

Isaline Pollitt has all but wrapped up the L50 series title, bagging a successive first prize in 35:35.

Lyndsay Darbyshire is still in with a shout of finishing second overall in the category after finishing second L50 on Saturday in 37:20.

Gwen Kinloch was second L55 in 35:17 and Burnden’s representation was completed by Liz Hopley (42:38) and Louise Wall (42:57).

Ferguson, Kinloch and Pollitt’s times combined earned them top place in the team rankings for the over-35, o40, o45 and o50 categories.

In the men’s race, Paul Duke was fifth V40 in 41:38, followed by Pete Hopley in 44:11, Martyn Pollitt in 45:58, Tony Wall (third V60) in 48:04 and Chris Greenall in 54:12.

A day later Ferguson was back in action leading the club’s contingent home in the 10k Mast Race to the top of Winter Hill and back to Smithills Sports Centre. She completed the course in 52:02.

Mumtaz Patel was next home in 54:17, followed by Paul Drew (56:12), Lawrence McDonald (1:01:51), Kathryn Berry (1:04:25), Philip Glassbrook (1:05:31), Iain Conner (1:18:07), Wasyl Gelyczak (1:18:07), Bill Kelly (1:38:13), Gillian McGowan (1:57:53) and Peter Whiteside (1:57:54).

Marcus Taylor completed the Inskip Half Marathon near Preston in 1:37:34, while three members took on the Four Villages Half Marathon in Helsby.

David Haire completed the route in 1:46:27, ahead of Nadia Raza in 1:57:55 and Sarah Woodiwiss in 2:01:10.
