ALEX Cook won one of the oldest cups competed for at Bolton School when he took gold in the annual Boys’ Division Year 7 gymnastics final.
The competition, which has been running for more than 100 years, was close-fought as contestants showed calmness under pressure as they performed a series of outstanding gymnastics routines and sequences.
Seven finalists each performed an eight-piece sequence having won through earlier rounds which had involved the whole year group.
PE staff judging the competition were given a tough task as each pupil performed almost flawless routines.
Second prize went to Frank Cooke with Umar Darsot finishing third.
