THIS week’s delve into the picture archives at The Bolton News has unearthed this photograph from June 1971 of Wanderers coach Eddie Hopkinson meeting the finalists of a five-a-side competition at New House Farm.

The information accompanying the picture says the competition followed coaching sessions run by the Bolton Parks department, in conjunction with Lancashire FA, and chief North West area coach Ray Minshull.

Do you remember those sessions or recognise anyone pictured?

Did you play in the competition and meet Hopkinson?

THE second picture was featured in the sporting nostalgia section a fortnight ago and is of the Bolton Under-15s team from May, 1995.

Reader Tendai Chiswala got in touch after seeing the picture online and said: "I was one of the players in that picture, the game, however, escapes me as it was some years ago.

"If memory serves me correctly, this picture was at the start of a good year for us as we ended up losing finalists at the Manchester schoolboys' final.

"We used to play all over the North West and parts of Yorkshire, were I live now, against some great players and a few well-known names as well.

"I will try to fill in some blanks for you.

"The back row, from left, includes: Nigel Hamilton (manager), Rick Hayman, Martin Mann, David Johnson, me, Paul Cosgrove, Phillip Darby, Peter Morrison, Paul Wheatcroft; front, ?, Gary Scott, Michael Adams, Scott Fairhurst, Michael Deveney, Paul Jolley (I think) and Lee Pryers.

"Lee Pryers, however, passed away in 2011 but, unfortunately, I have lost contact with most of those, so I do hope they won't mind me naming them for you."

Mark Hayman added: "My brother is the player in the top left corner.

"He now lives in Newcastle but I have sent it to him."

Meanwhile, Gary Scott said: "I’m in that photo and remember it well – they were great times.

"We went on to get to the cup final that year of Greater Manchester, I think it was, losing 2-0 to Manchester at Belle Vue.

"Sadly one of those young lads has since passed away."
