LOSTOCK AC's Tony Marlow, Toney Donnelly, Brian Halton, Josie Greenhalgh, Mike Ernill and Albert Sunter headed up the M6 to Askham on the north-eastern edge of the Lake District for the annual Nav4 Lakes Mountain 42 ultra marathon.

Starting and finishing in Askham, the first and final few miles cross Askham Moor before ascending some of the Lake District's highest peaks, including Helvellyn, High Street and Place.

While the weather was more benign than in previous years, the 42-mile race with 10,000 feet of ascent is still a challenge for only the most experienced of fell runners.

Marlow was the the first Lostocker home in a time of 9hrs 42mins 19secs and a new personal best.

Donnelly finished in 10:04:05, with Greenhalgh home in 10:10:57, Sunter in 10:20:01, Ernill in 11:53:10 and Halton in 11:53:16.

In Lancaster, Jennifer Donnellan celebrated Mother's Day in a novel way by completing the Lancaster Running Series Mother's Day 10k in a time of 55:21.
