HAWKSHAW are going for the double this season in the Bolton Badminton League.

The club’s A team is poised to challenge the top three in Section A after a resounding 18-0 victory over Markland Hill D took their tally to six points from three matches and they have two games in hand.

Above them are Bury A at the top, Markland Hill A and Markland Hill B both two points behind.

In B Section, Hawkshaw C has overtaken Hawkshaw B to take the number one slot on 12 points, although the B team has a match in hand.

D Section is tight with D L Farnworth C leading the division but being chased by Sharples C. They must have been hoping for two points to aid promotion hopes when they visited Bolton Arena to tackle fourth spot Forrest E.

The visitors had a hint of the possible battle ahead when the opening game between Forrest’s DureenDixon and Paul Skivington and Sharples’ Linda Duckworth and Sam Artingstall went the way of the Sharples duo 22-20.

Sharples took the next three closely-fought games before Georgina Watford and Ray Schofield took the first of the third mixed set 23-21 for Forrest.

It was Sharples, however, who had the best of the mixed, and a commanding 8-2 lead resulted.

Then Georgina and Dureen took back a point with both top ladies before Ray and Paul split top men’s with Sharples’ Andy Woods and Matthew Duckworth to put the visitors on nine games and ensure a point. But Georgina with Ann Schofield won both second ladies, and the points now rested on the final men’s games.

Ray with Stuart Holden won the first game to 7 and, in a spirited final game, held off the challenge to snatch the last of the night to 17 and share the points.
