WINDERMERE’S professional Simon Edwards, who has competed at The Open in the last two years and represented Wales in last year’s European PGA Championships, has confirmed he will play in next month’s Pro Am at Deane Golf Club.

Prize money totalling £2,500 will be up for grabs at the June 30 event – Bolton’s only Pro Am – which is being organised jointly by Deane professional Dave Martindale, Chilli Dip Golf pro Jamie Barr and Steve Parry, of the North West Golf Academy.

Barr and Parry, who played in the Open at Carnoustie and the PGA Championship at Wentworth and represented England in the European PGA Golf Championship last year, are former junior members at Deane.

The competition will feature teams of four – three amateurs (men/women/mixed) together with a professional – who will play a stableford competition while, individually, each professional plays in a medal competition.

First prize for the professional in the medal competition is £1,000 and the prize fund for amateurs is £1,000.
