WHILE Great Lever gained their fourth successive win last week beating Bolton 6–2 to maintain top spot in the BGA League A, it was the powerful Old Links who stole the show when they demolished Breightmet 8–0 to overtake Deane’s Premier place in League B.

Old Links were in rampant form at home and despite Breightmet’s 8–0 drubbing over Turton in the previous week, the visitors just never got off the starting blocks.

Old Links captain Duncan Simm said: “We have a good team this year with probably a mix of eight scratch and one-handicappers to choose from and when I heard last week of Breightmet’s 8 – 0 result over Turton, I knew we had to be at the top of our game.”

Ironically, Old Links will visit Turton this week against a home team that are still smarting having lost all three matches to date.

Chorley hosted local rivals Hindley Hall last week and despite leading in the early stages, the visitors soon steadied the ship when Paul Edwards overcame Graham Bolton and further wins from Harry Roocroft, Barry Deacon and Tom Milner, managed to square the match 4–4.

Three-time BGA champion in the 1980s and the 2014 club champion, Chorley’s Bill Bromilow took care of Hindley’s young Joe Heaton with a 4&3 victory.

Bromilow, who has just past his 54th birthday has shown that he can still torment the opposition.

Chorley team captain Dan Wright had produced their first win followed by the perennial Bromilow with Gavin Edwards and Joe Heald bringing in their fourth success of the night.

Bolton were under the cosh when they travelled to league leaders Great Lever last week and took yet another beating.

This leaves Bolton bottom of league A with just nine points. The Farnworth club clinched an easy 6–2 victory and will meet Chorley tonight where they will be keen to keep up their winning run and move further from the chasing pack.

After a bruising encounter against visitors Great Lever in the previous week, Horwich resumed normal service when they tamed Westhoughton 6–2 bringing the ‘Locos’ into third place in league A.

In league B, Deane suffered their first defeat of the season when they visited Hart Common who took the honours 5½-2½ on home soil.

The Common will visit Harwood this week which will make an interesting encounter with both in a mid-table position.
