IT was the captain’s charity competition at Old Links last weekend with the decided format being a three player Texas Scramble with a 1/8th combined handicap allowance but with each team member having to use at least five of their drives.

The full field battled against some of the strongest wind conditions seen at Old Links enjoying the challenge but not the intermittent showers.

Captain Barrie Sharpe demonstrated his leadership qualities to motivate his team, which included Phil Coleman and Andy Elding-Baines, to victory with a brilliant 62.5.

Second place went to the team of Con Duffy, Stuart Borthwick and Daniel McKeown with 64.75, with third place going to the team of Anthony Chadwick, John Pilling and Ged Hull with 65.625.

The event raised £175 which was increased to £200 by an additional donation from the captain and this will be added to the accumulating joint captain and lady captain’s charity fund for Bolton Hospice.
