MORE than 1,000 football-mad German supporters turned up to see Magdeberg face Wanderers’ Under-23s in a Monday afternoon friendly at the Macron.

The game - which ended up 3-2 to the visitors - was organised by the Bolton Whites Hotel but the scale of the travelling support meant it had to be moved from the training ground and stewarded as it would in a normal Championship game.

Wanderers’ line-up contained four trialists - Raphael Diarra, Frank, Luke Porritt and Phattharaphol Khamsuk.

Diarra, a centre-half, was once on the books of French side AS Monaco and FC Bruges, while little information was available on Frank - a Belgian midfielder - at time of writing.

Both Porritt - a winger - and Khamsuk - a Thai Under-23 international striker - are on trial from Northern Premier League outfit Hyde United.

Early goals from Christopher Handke and Christian Beck gave the German side a 2-0 advantage at the break, although Wanderers had chances to narrow the lead with Connor Hall and Cole Lonsdale.

Magdeburg hit the post shortly after the restart but Julius Duker did make it three on 65 minutes, pouncing on Jake Turner’s parry.

Harry Brockbank pulled one back for the Whites with a thunderous free kick and Hall gave the scoreline a respectable look with a late penalty.

Meanwhile, Gary Madine has been nominated for the December PFA Player of the Month Award. He faces competition from Derby’s Curtis Davies, Leeds’ Pontus Jansson, Preston’s Chris Maxwell, Bristol City’s Jamie Paterson and Brentford’s Lasse Vibe.
