WANDERERS have given a two-year contract to highly-rated keeper Jake Turner.

The England youth international stepped up as back-up to Mark Howard and Ben Alnwick last season and made the bench on 19 occasions.

He was voted Wanderers’ young player of the year and his progress has been tracked by a number of Premier League clubs, including Manchester United and Everton.

Speaking last month, the Whites’ head of academy Jimmy Phillips said he was thrilled to see how far Turner had progressed in the last couple of seasons.

“Jake has put in a lot of hard work and now has got his reward,” he said. “He is a great talent and I’m sure he will go on to have a very good career.”

Wanderers have also confirmed striker Connor Hall has signed a pro deal, following a trial from Sheffield United.

Slough-born Hall, aged 19, spent time out on loan with Woking and Mickleover during his time as a Bramall Lane trainee and has already played a handful of games at Conference level.

Jeff King has also extended his deal from last season, with the former Droylsden man impressing for David Lee’s Under-23s to the extent Phil Parkinson looked to bring him into the first team squad in March.

George Newell, who played twice for the Whites during the 2015/16 Championship campaign, has been released by the club. Son of former Blackburn Rovers and Everton striker Mike Newell, the 20-year-old had time out on loan at AFC Fylde.

Wanderers also confirmed the departure of Anas Abdo, Jack Everest, Jordan Grant, Tom Grivosti, Sam Lavelle, Matthew Marsh and Ronaldo Pearson.

Meanwhile, Jamie Proctor’s move to Rotherham was confirmed yesterday afternoon.

The deal, worth £75,000, had been put on hold over the weekend after the Whites failed to pay players’ promotion bonuses and, in some cases, salaries.

The PFA confirmed yesterday the club has pledged to pay all overdue money by the end of the week.
