JOSH Vela has signed a three-and-a-half-year deal with Wanderers.

The midfielder – tipped for a bright future at the Reebok – has now extended his current deal until 2015.

Injury has prevented the Salford-born ball-winner from making an impact on the first team this season after he had forced his way on to the fringes of Owen Coyle’s squad in the summer.

But he returned to action after a broken ankle in the reserve team’s 2-1 defeat to Manchester United on Monday night, replacing Sean Davis, and was delighted to sign a new deal.

“It’s been a bit of a frustrating season for me, what with the injury, so I just want to continue working hard,” said the 18-year-old .

“My aim is of course to get into the first team and I know I have got a lot to learn, but I feel I am developing into a better player with each day.

“The gaffer and staff have been brilliant to me and when you see there is a number of youngsters knocking on the door, it’s a great incentive.”

Wanderers’ 18-year-old striker Jack Sampson has extended his loan spell with Southend United.

He has made one start and three substitute appearances for Paul Sturrock’s promotion chasers since arriving at Roots Hall in January.

He will now remain in London at least until March 10.
